Redefinition Surveys

Whether you need to find or replace your boundary pegs to meet Council requirements when building on your property or adding a structure, you're building a fence, you want to show prospective purchasers where you boundaries are, or you are trying to solve a dispute with a neighbour, Blue Wallace Surveyors can help.

"How much will it cost?"
Because every property is different, we can't give a standard answer to this question. We invoice based on the actual time it takes to complete the job, and this varies according to location of the property and the available reliable survey reference marks in the neighbourhood, on the size of the property, it's terrain, whether there are large trees (which mean we can't use GPS) or if its covered in scrub.

For a more accurate idea, please give us a call or fill out our enquiry form, and one of our staff can research your property to give you a more accurate estimate.

What do we actually do?
After we have searched your property's survey data in the Land Information NZ (LINZ) database, we search the database for information on existing reliable survey marks near your property to work from.

Then we do calculations to reestablish the underlying survey network required to confirm your boundary positions and the reliability of marks.

Next we enter this information into the appropriate survey instrument (GPS or Theodolite), and head out to your property. We locate the survey reference marks relevant to your site, and then traverse through existing survey control to your property and the correct location of your boundaries. We will place a plastic or wooden peg in soft ground, or a small metal disc in hard surfaces such as concrete or tarseal driveways or on top of fences. Often we will place a larger wooden stake or spray paint mark beside the survey mark so you can easily locate them.

If you need, we can also place line marker stakes along the line of the boundary (rather than at the corners), for example, if you're building a fence.

Changes to Cadastral Rules to increase cost of Boundary Redefinition Surveys.
From 24th of May 2010, the Cadastral Survey rules will change, adding the requirement that surveyors lodge a plan with LINZ every time a boundary mark is placed.

Unfortunately this will add to the work and time required to complete your boundary redefinition survey, and  we will be forced to raise our prices from that date to reflect this. Prices will also include a new disbursement charge for the LINZ plan lodgement fee of $46.
